Heaphy - Day three

Not as many photos from day three as it wasn't a huge amount of fun!

We started out on the plateau pretty early, with myself still hobbling along, albeit with a much reduced load thanks to come careful redistribution of material wealth.

Of course it started raining so we all buttoned down the hatches which meant we couldn't enjoy the scenery quite as much, though we did encounter our first Giant land snail (Powelliphanta).

We made it as far as Saxon hut, where unfortunately we decided I couldn't go any further.

Luckily, a gentlemen we met at the previous hut (Perry saddle), his young son and his sons friend arrived to rescue us. Turn out his sons friends dad is a DoC ranger, so this lad knew how to get into the rangers hut and got on the radio to call me a helicopter! What a bloke!

Not long after my ride arrived and off I was to Nelson hospital. Abby, Christina and Lauren went on to the next hut and then onto day 4 and the end of the track!

Helicopter flights are very scary.
